Hearing Loss
Understanding hearing loss — types, causes, symptoms, and when to seek professional help.
What Actually Is Hearing Loss?
Someone who is not able to hear as well as someone with normal hearing — hearing thresholds of 20 dB or better in both ears — is suffering from hearing loss. Hearing loss varies with the condition.
It may be mild, moderate, severe, or profound, and can affect one ear or both ears. Hearing loss may also lead to difficulty in hearing conversational speech or loud sounds.
Early diagnosis is key. A certified audiologist can assess your hearing and recommend the most appropriate solution — whether medication, surgery, hearing aids, or a combination of treatments.

Types of Hearing Loss
🔵 Conductive Hearing Loss
Affects the outer or middle ear, preventing sound from reaching the inner ear. Often treatable with medication or surgery in consultation with an ENT specialist. In some cases, hearing aids may be recommended.
🟡 Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Caused by damage or injury to the inner ear or the nerve supplying it. The most common type — particularly in older adults. Usually permanent but very effectively managed with hearing aids. An audiologist can find the perfect aid for your condition.
🟠 Mixed Hearing Loss
A combination of both Conductive and Sensorineural Hearing Loss. One can often overcome this with the appropriate use of hearing aids and medical treatment. Consult an ENT specialist and audiologist together for the best outcome.
